Bishop Whyte has received notification from the Apostolic Delegate -at Sydney, Archbishop Marella, that the Holy See has appointed the ltev. Dr. J. P. Kavanagli, of Wellington, as co-adjutor-administrator to the Most Reverend .James Why to, Roman Catho-. lie Bishop of the Diocese of Dunedin. Dr. Kavanagh, who is 36, was born ■at Hawera. Educated at the Hawera Convent and the Sacred Heart Cob lege, Auckland, Bishop Kavanagh studied at Holv Cross College, Mosgiel, from 1932 to 1936, ami was ordained bv Archbishop O'Shea at St Mary of'the Angels, Wellington on September 6, 1936. Later he went to Rome for a post-graduate course m tho Institute of Law of the Pontifical L>ueran University, where, as part of ms course, he undertook special si-uclien at the Sacred Roman Rota. On the completion of his studies he graduated as Doctor of Canon Law. P.A.
