LONDON BRIDE IN AFRICA

Reactions of Tribal Regent Uncertain LONDON, August 21. The former London typist, Mrs Ruth Khama, now wife of Seretse Khama, chief-designate of the Bamangwato tribe, Bechuanaland. arrived at Francistown by air yesterday and was met by liei* husband, says Reuter’s Francistown correspondent. They left later by road for Serowe, headquarters of the Bamangwato tribe.

The Cape Town correspondent of the Associated Press says that when a newspaper reporter found the white trader’s house at Palapye road on the main line to Rhodesia, where Seretse and his white bride were spending the night, they found the place guarded by fierce dogs. Tshekedi Khama, who is Seretse’s uncle and former regent of the tribe, awaits the couple’s arrival at Serowe although he may not consent to meet the bride. He has sworn to go into exile immediately Seretse arrives with his bride. Tehekewi Khama has already sent several lorry-loads of his goods accompanied by a number of tribal seniors to an unknown destination. [ At Serowe the Seretses have taken a house formerly belonging to a British Government official who equipped it regardless of expense with radios, refrigerators and every modern convenience. A special staff of coloured servants has been imported from South Africa.
