CATCHMENT board progress Summaries of works progress in. the Ashburton district, as reported to Thursday’s meeting of the South. Canterbury Catchment Board at Timaru, were as follow :
Dry Creek (Harrison Estate frontage) : Estimate £790, subsidy £2 for £l. Job comprises 71 chains stopbank, 7 chains channel improvement and 5 chains anchored tree protection. Of this, 9 chdins of stopbank and one of channel improvement have been completed. Ashburton 'River (Winchmore stopbanks): Estimated cost approximately £9OOO. Sudsidy not known, but £I6BB of free money is held by P.W.D. for the job. Work comprises five miles of stopbank. . Ashburton River (fairway clearance) : Estimated cost £II,BOO. Subsidy £4 for £l. Expended to date £1460. Work comprises clearing of 10 chains wide fairway in lower _ seven miles and of original growth m 33 miles of P.W.D. fairways. Ashburton River (second _ growth clearance): Estimated expenditure lor year £3700. Subsidy £2 for £l. Work covers 33 miles of P.W.D. fairways.
