PAVILION NEEDED

SPORTS BODIES’ REQUEST Provision of a pavilion for sports bodies using the top grounds of the Domain was sought in a letter, from the Ashburton Sports’ Association to the Borough Council last evening. The Association stated the proposal originated from the Cricket Association, and enclosed a letter from them outlining their reasons for wanting the pavilion. “We know a pavilion is desperately needed there,”- commented the Mayor (Mr E. C. Bathurst). He recommended that the matter be referred to the Junior Chamber of Commerce. for them to organise sports bodies. It was decided to advise the Sports Association that the Domain Board was prepared to consider the erection of a pavilion, provided its location and design was suitable to the board. The council would find the finance conditional on the clubs accepting responsibility for the payment of an adequate deposit and meeting sinking fund and interest repayment of any loan required for the project.
