PRAISED BY THE POPE
BRITISH SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT VATICAN CITY, January 11. The Pope to-clay praised the British system of Government as “one that has stood the test of centuries” when lie received in private audience IS members of the British Parliament, led by the Speaker of the House of Commons (Colonel Clifton Brown). The Pope said: “Among the noble traditions of the parliamentary system is the fact that it permits an interchange of ideas and freedom of speech. When this freedom is exercised in an atmosphere of understanding. with due respect for justice and truth and under the guidance of an impartial judge, the benefit to a nation is difficult to exaggerate,” he said. The British members of Parliament came to Italy to return a visit recently made to England by an Italian parliamentary group.
