ISLAND TAKEN BY REBELS
TROOPS SENT FROM RANGOON
(Rec. 9.20 a.m.) RANGOON, Jan. 12. Government forces sailed from Rangoon to eject a group of rebels from Bilugyun Island, off the south-east coast of Burma. The island fell into the hands of the rebels yesterday after a 24-hour assault. A Government spokesman --aid that the island, which is one night’s journey by steamer from Rangoon, was garrisoned by civilian police only, when a force of 200 rebels swarmed across the narrow straits dividing the island from the mainland and occupied positions.
