WAS IN ASHBURTON

Miss M. Howard’s First Job

Speaking at the Ashburton Public Hospital yesterday, the Minister of Health (Miss M. Howard) said that her first job was in this town.

“ I was attending technical classes in book-keeping at Christchurch,” she explained, “when the business affairs of an Ashburton firm got into something of a tangle, so the proprietors asked my parents if I could come down here and straighten out the hooks. They agreed and so I came down, though it was only for a month or six weeks.

“So I started work here and I have not stopped working since,” concluded the Minister.
