RANGOON, January 10. Bo Po Kun, president of “White Band” insurgent followers of the People’s Volunteer Organisation, lias begun direct peace negotiations with the Burmese Government to settle outstanding difficulties. Bo Po Kun said that a peace commission had been unable to make headway in the negotiations between the Government and the insurgent section of the People’s Volunteer ganisation.White Band members of the People’s Volunteer Organisation were expelled from the Anti-Fascist People’s Freedom League and joined the White Flag Communists in' their revolt against Thakin Nu’s Government last summer. They demanded that Burmese policy should be framed in consultation with insurgent Communists. Discussions were in progress at the week-end between the Prime Minister, Thakin Nu, and leaders of Karen National Union, which claims to represent the bulk of Karen tribesmen seeking independence.
