A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr Thomas Lowery was passed at yesterday’s meeting of the Ashburton A. and P. Association.
Sub-Inspector’C. Murphy, of Christchurch, has been transferred to Rotorua as officer in charge of the police station there. He came from the North Island to Christchurch in 1946.
The promotion of Senior-Sergeant G. H. L. Holt to sub-inspector was announced yesterday. He will continue service at the Central Police Station, Christchurch. Previously he was stationed on the Wes( Coast.
Mr S. G. Heffernan, postmaster at Ashburton, who recently received advice of his transfer as chief-postmas-ter at Oamaru, will leave Ashburton on May 27 to take up his duties at Oamaru.
