COAL INDUSTRY
PETTY STOPPAGES DEPLORED (Rec. 12.50 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The leaders of the Miners’ Federation, including the general president, Mr I. Williams, and the general secretary, Mr G. W. S. Grant, denounced petty stoppages in the coal industry. In a joint statement they said that such stoppages made a rabble of the miners and turned public opinion against them. “Unauthorised stqppages tend to divert attention from big issues,” continues the statement. “They sap our strength needed for struggles to win big issues. They do not injure the coal owners, but mean disunity, disruption and conflict in our own ranks. Sectional action means a rabble, and rabbles never won big fights.”
