FIELD DAY

PASTURE COMPETITION DECIDED A field day was held yesterday, in conjunction with the final day’s judging of the irrigated pasture competition in, the Ashburton-Lyndhurst section of the irrigation scheme. Results were: —Kermode Bros., 83 points, 1; R. W. Prebble, SOi points, 2; P. C. Curd, 711 points, 3. Mr G. K. McPherson, of the field division of the Department of Agriculture, who was the judge, inspected the field in the spring and autumn. The first three competitoi's used a mixture of perennial ryegrass, crested dogstail, timothy, white clover, and montgomery red clover when their paddocks were sown down. The competition will be ar. annual event for a rose bowl given by the Public Works Department at the instigation of the Minister of Works (the Hon. R. Semple). There were eight entries this year.
