ST. JAMES THEATRE “Wanted for Murder,” which opens to-morrow at the St. James Theatre, is a drama of murder whose measured plot develops in a mounting crescendo of suspensci'ul episodes to a powerful climax. The central figure of the film is Eric Povtman, portraying a successful busi ness man by day who becomes a murderer at night, driven by the haunting image of his great-grandfather who held the position of public hangman for Queen Victoria. The tormented victim of his own imaginings, he cannot evade the homicidal tendencies which impel him to kill for the sheer thrill of killing. One of England’s great dramatic actors, Povtman displays a subtle and intelligent artistry which makes his portrayal of the remorseful killer an exciting performance. In moves as carefully engineered as in a chess game, the craftiness and brilliance of the murderer is pitted against the patient, deft action of an alert Scotland Yard.
