CATHOLIC CLUBS’ TOURNEY i > Ashburton Celtic beat Christchurch Mari.st No. 2 11-0, when the third round of the South Island Catholic Clubs’ annual Easter Rugby tournament was begun at the Addington Showgrounds yesterday. J. Small, Ashburton, a former Otago and Canterbury representative, secured the first points of the game when he followed up the advantage gained from a penalty just outside Marist’s twenty-five line and scored near the posts. The Ashburton backs broke away when well in Marist territory several minutes later, and when the ball was carried into the forwards Small went over again. Marist forwards pressed hard and succeeded in keeping play in Ashburton territory. In one determined attack on the* line Ryan narrowly missed scoring. Half-time score Avas: Ashburton Celtic G, Marist No. 2 0. " Marist continued the attack on resumption, and managed to keep the ball about lialf-way, despite individual runs by the Ashburton backs. In the last minute the Ashburton backs broke away. The ball went out to Rlacklow, who passed in to C. Bradley, who in turn handed to Small, who went over between the posts. Slavin converted. The final score was : Ashburton Celtic 11, Marist No. 2 0. The referee was Mr D. B. Brown.
