GENERAL STRIKE IN JAPAN
Mac Arthur Imposes Veto (Rec. 9.30 a.m.) TOKIO, March 29. General MacArthur’s headquarters announced that it had ordered the Japanese Government to prevent a general strik'e of nearly 1,500,000 communications workers and other Government employees. The Government was told that General MacArthur reiterated his statement of January 31, 1947, in which, he said: “I will not permit the use of so deadly a social weapon in the present impoverished condition of Japan.” X Workers who planned to strike on Wednesday' will now remain at work and the regional strike fen* West Japan to-morrow will, he called off.
