WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
ALL ENT ON ANNUAL MEETING .At the March meeting of the Alienton’Women’s Institute Mrs Vartha presided over a good attendance of members. One new member was welcomed. Mesdames H. Vartha and C. Campbeli were appointed delegates to the annual meeting of the Mid-Canter-bury Federation. A letter was received from the Institute link in England expressing thanks for a parcel. It was decided to send another food parcel. The roll-call, “My Most Enjoyable Holiday,” was well responded to. The retiring president, Mrs Vartha, thanked the committee and members for their support throughout the year. The annual report was read by Mrs G. Argyle, retiring secretary, and the balance-sheet by Miss M. Osborn, retiring treasurer, both revealing an instructive and interesting year, which ended with a good credit balance. Sprays were presented to Mesaames J. McElhinney, H. Vartha, G. Argyle and Miss M. Osborn. The annual meeting was presided over by Mrs J. McElhinney. Tthe election of officers resulted: President, Mrs -H. Vartha: Vice-presidents, Mesdames E. C. Bathurst and G. Argyle; hon. secretary, Mrs C. Campbell; as-sistant-secretary, Miss M. Osborn; treasurer, Mrs L. Cooper; committee, Mesdames F. Scott, W. Collins, Clucas, Hooper, Bryant, McLaren and Miss R. Douglas. Prizes for most points for the year went to Mrs J. McElhinney 1, Mrs C. Hale 2, and Mrs Smith 3. Mrs L. Cooper won the prize for most entries. Competitions resulted: Spray, Mrs McLaren 1, Mrs W. Storey 2, Miss Prebble and Mrs R. Hawke (equal) 3; jar of flowers, Mrs F. Scott 1, Mrs ,T. McElhinney 2, Mrs A. Corbitt 3.
The hostesses were Mesdames J. Boothroyd, L. Cooper, A. Corbitt and Hooper.
