EWES AT TINWALD
PRICES DOWN ON BREEDERS’
PAIR Values at the open ewe fair at Tinwald this week, with one exception, were down from 2s to 3s a head on the prices paid for sheep at the breeders’ fair held the previous week. Of a yarding of about 8000, about GOOO were sold at auction, but several sales were made privately. There was good competition (for fwotooths showing quality, but adult sheep did not meet with a ready sale. The yarding comprised sheep of a very mixed quality with the exception of an odd line, and did not compare with the ewes entered at the breeders’ fair. A large proportion of the sheep was entered by dealers. The top price was 52s 6d for 71 Romney cross two-tooths, which were bought for a few shillings less than this sum at the breeders’ fair. Medium two-tooths sold at 32s to 365, good from 3Ss to 445, and extra good up to 52s 6d. Inferior foui’-year ewes sold up to 21s, good from 23s Gd to 275, and extra good up to 30s Gd.
