FIFTY YEARS SYNE (From the “Guardian,” Mar. 189 S). Ashburton Swimming Club The final races of the season of the Ashburton Amateur Swimming Club were held yesterday. Results were: School Cup—C. Mayo 1, A. Sparrow 2, N. Wilkie 3, H. Braddell 4 (all from Ashburton Borough School). Mayo won by about a yard, Sparrow beating Wilkie by some two feet for second place, with Braddell close behind. 220 Yards Senior Handicap: McKinney (scr) 1, A. Wilkie (scr) 2, C. Willis (15sec) 3. Mr A. Harrison acted as starter, and Mr F. Russell as judge.

, New Students’ Building—The Students’ Union of Canterbury College has raised £I2OO in two years for a new students’ building to cost £30,000. They have now asked the Board of Governors to grant a site, suggesting the available part of the Boys’ High School playing ground in Hereford Street. The request has been referred to a committee for favourable consideration. It is expected the building will be begun within three years and take several years td complete.
