GRAIN ApD PRODUCE MARKETS REMAIN FIRM The Ashburton grain, seed and produce merchants report that owing to the proximity of the Easter holidays, merchants are not operating to any great extent. Millers are to receive a further allocation of wheat from Australia during the next fortnight, and it is understood that a small proportion of the shipment will be released for fowl wheat. Oats of all varieties are still in keen demand and supplies are now becoming short. Most crops of barley have now been harvested, and sales are readily made at contract rates. The market for perennial ryegrass is a shade weaker owing_ to the uncertainty of the quantity that will be allowed for export. Short rotation ryegrass of high germination is firm, but no interest is being taken in the market for Italian ryegrass, which remains practically unsaleable. ;S New season’s lupins are readily saleable, but lines of last season’s are neglected. The market for white clover remains quiet. The red clover crop locally will be a short one, but it is understood that an average crop has been harvested in Blenheim. Other markets remain unchanged.
