ASHBURTON ASSN.

BASKETBALL

ANNUAL MEETING HELD The annual meeting of the Ashburton Basketball Association was hold last evening, there being a good attendance of officials and delegates, including representation from Methven. Mr S. G. Macfarlane was in the chair, and opening the meeting expressed pleasure ’at so large a gathering, which indicated the continuance of keen interest in the game. The annual report and statement of income and expenditure showed the past season to have been again a successful one. In moving their adoption, the chairman commented on the fact that special subscriptions from the clubs had just covered expenses to the New Zealand tournament. He thanked the clubs for their generous support. The election of officers resulted: President, Mr S. G. Macfarlane; vicepresidents, as for last year, except that the Rev. .1. Evans was elected in place of the Veil. Archdeacon C. L. Mountfort; secretary, Miss J. McEachen: treasurer, Mss B. Whiting; assistant treasurer, Miss J. Cox; auditor, Mr W. Crawford. After Methven delegates had put forward the difficulties in the way of the forming of a sub-association in their area, it was resolved to try again the arrangement of fortnightly matches there.

It was reported that most of the basketball poles had been lost in the domain fire in February, and that it would cost some £25 to replace them. A discussion on playing grounds, and the possibilities of asphalt courts took place, and it w'as decided to make further inquiries. It was decided to renew the suggestion that a combined Tima.ni, Temuka, Waimate, Ashburton team play the touring Australian team at Timaru.
