MR F.T.M. KISSEL RETIRES

MANAGER OF STATE HYDROELECTRIC DEPARTMENT

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, March 24. Mr F.' T. M. Kissel has retired from the position of general manager of the State Hydro-electric Department. He will be succeeded by Mr A. E. Davonport, at present chief electrical engineer to the department. Mr S. Roberts, secretary of the department, has been appointed assistant general manager.-—;- ' Mr Kissel entered the Public Works Department after graduating from Canterbury University College in 1905. He was engineer-in-charge of the first installation at Lake Coleridge between 1911 and 1915. In 1922 he was sent to gain experience in the latest practices in hydro-electrical engineering and shortly after his return he was appointed chief electrical engineer to the Public Works Department.

Upon the formation of the State Hydro-electrical Department in 1945 he was appointed general manager. From the small beginning of State enterprise at Lake Coleridge Mr Kissell guided the expansion of the electric supply system throughout New Zealand, with a capital biitlay of more than £34,000,000.
