FIFTY YEARS SYNE (From the “Guardian,” Mar. 25, 1898). School Treat —The- annual , school treat in connection with the Lauriston Sunday School was held on Thursday afternoon. A short though sharp thunderstorm accompanied by hailstones of a phenomenal size, somewhat interfered with the games, and one and all were forced to seek the shelter of the school. Appropriate speeches were made, by the Rev. J. Clark and Mr Widdowson, superintendent, of the Sunday school; several selections were rendered by the choir, and the singing of “God be with You” brought a pleasant evening to a closer TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (From the “Guardian,” Mar. 25, 1923). Wakanui Lodge The fortnightly meeting of » the Pride of Wakanui Lodge, 1.0.G.T., was held in the schoolroom on Tuesday evening. Mr F. Frampton presided over a fair attendance of members. The following contributed items: Songs, Sister M. Wilson and Mr Corbett; recitation, Sister Begg; readings, Messrs McLean and Frampton. A bean competition waa won by Sister Crawford, with Mr Mercer second. A five seconds’ competition was won by Mr Begg.
