EASTER FARE

LOCAL ATTRACTIONS Easter attractions in the district this year are comparatively few. The usual church services will be held to-morrow, and* on Saturday afternon the Timvald Cycling Club will hold a Mid-Canterbury championship race around the Willowby block, starting at 2 -o’clock. Trotting enthusiasts will be catered for by the concluding day at Addington. A pairs bowling tournament will be staged by the Allenton Club on Saturday. On Monday, the main attraction m the district will be the Hinds Gymkhana, which provides a very varied programme including a series of trotting events. On the same day the Ashburton Bowling Club will hold a fours tournament. The Cantertmry Jockey Club’s meeting will also open at Riccarton.

The South Canterbury Methodist Young Men’s Bible Class Fellowship will hold their Easter camp at the showgrounds. Visitors are due to arrive this evening, and a varied programme will be conducted over the next three days, including .an elocutionary contest to-morrow afternoon, a tennis tourney on Saturday with sports in the afternoon, and cricket on Monday. The South Canterbury Methodist Young Women’s Bible Class Fellowship is also holding the annual camp at Ashburton and this will be at the Ashburton East School, where a programme very similar to that at the showgrounds will be carried through. The South Canterbury Methodist district extends from Bakaia to Oamaru.
