The St. Francis River overflowed its banks at Bromptonville, Quebec, when an ice-jam blocked it last night, causing one death, more than 500,000 dollars worth of damage to residential property and ripping up half a mile of the track on the Canadian National Railway. :
Nearly 100 residents are homeless, as the flood swept their houses away. The water forced huge icefloes through the streets, knocking aside buildings like ninepins. The town suffered further through power being cut off when the electric light poles were smashed.
