HAMPSTEAD ANNUAL MEETING

The 17th annual meeting of the Hampstead Women’s Institute was held in the Memorial Hall on March 18. The president (Mrs Hawkey) presided over a large atendajice. The nominations of four new members were received, and a number ot members who had been absent, were welcomed back. , Mrs Constable was nominated for group convener. She announced that the competition, for group travel funds had been drawn, and the winner would jb e announced in next month s journal.’ . Mesdames Cooke and E. Childs were appointed delegates to the Mid-Can-terbury Federation annual meeting, to be held on April 13. ' Mesdames Flatman and Preddy were appointed .to make wreaths for Anzac Day. „ , A competition for sick funds realised 10s 6d, and was won by Mrs Scales. The house competition for the past year resulted: Thompson House I, Hunt House 2, Morton House 3. The annual report showed a very active and successful year. The adoption of the report was moved by the secretary (Mrs Rose) and seconded by the president (Mrs Hawkey) who referred to the happy year just passed, and thanked the committee members for their help and co-operation. The treasurer (Mrs Cooke) read the financial statement which showed a very satisfactory credit balance. Votes of thanks Avere passed to Mr H. Sutherland, who audited .the financial statement, the “Guardian” for publishing our reports, and Mrs J. Tinker for judging the house competitions. In taking the chair for the election of officers, Mrs McElhinney was presented with a shoulder spray by Mrs Hawkey.' Mrs Flatman presented sprays to the retiring president, secretary and treasurer. Mrs McElhinney moved a motion of sympathy with Mrs T. S. Taylor, who had suffered bereavement, members standing in silence. The following officers were elected: President, Mrs Hawkey; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames Rose and E. Childs; secretary, Mrs Constable; treasurer. Mrs Cooke; Committee, Mesdames Millar, Houston, Smith, Dailey. Rogatski, Haack, Hickey, S. Wilson and Baker. The competitions, judged by Mrs Tinker, resulted: Bloom, Mrs W. Thompson 1, Mrs Rose 2, Mrs Seales 3; truss, Mrs Dailey and Mrs Rose equal 1, Mrs W. Thompson 3, Mrs Scales and Mrs Dakers equal 4; jar of asters, Mrs Nutbrown 1, Mrs Haack 2, Mrs Rrownsdon 3; saucer posy, Mrs Rogatski 1, Mrs Scales 2, Mrs Hack and Mrs Parrish equal 3; thrift -'article, Mrs M. Thompson 3, Mrs Parrish 2, Mrs Rogatski 3; three best tomatoes, Mrs Constable 1, Mrs Dakers 2, Mrs Calder 3. The hostesses were Mesdames S. Childs, Parrish, Wilcox, Smith and Constable.
