, Demonstration by Pipe Band A large attendance of the public witnessed a spectacular, display by the Ashburton County Scottish Society’s Pipe Hand, under Drum-Major L. L. Aitken, at the Domain yesterday a Iternoon. The programme began with a drumhead service conducted by Mr A. 1). Lowe. The Pipe Band then played the contest quickstep, Iho drummajor’s display and test selections for the New Zealand pipe bands’ contest at Dunedin. The Ashburton Silver Band played items during the afternoon, and also gave a. quickstep demonstration. The display was thoroughly enjoyed by the spectators, who heartily applauded the items. The Mayor (Mr E. 0. Bathurst) wished the Pipe Band every success in the contest at Dunedin. The hand is to leave for Dunedin on Thursday. Many weeks of hard practice have gone into the test selections! arid marching displays, and the band, whether successful or not, will give a good account of itself. The public expressed its appreciation of the fine displays yesterday incontributing £7O in the collection boxes.
