OBITUARY

MR T. M. HUTT The death occurred at Rotorua Hospital last Saturday, at the age of 50 years, of Mr T. M., Hutt, a well-known figure in Geraldine. Born in Ashburton, Mr Hutt was actively associated with a number of organisations at Ashburton. He served with the Canterbury Mounted Rifles, and later served with artillery and infantry units in Egypt and France. On his return he settled at Alford Forest, where he was actively associated with the move to obtain a school for the district, and served as chairman of the coriimittee. He was also president of the shooting club. Mr Hutt came to Geraldine 19 years ago, and was activelv associated with various organisations in the district. He served for periods a® president of the Geraldine branch of the. Labour Party, a vestryman of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, secretary and treasurer of the Geraldine District High School Committee, and coach of a Geraldine football club lower grade team. For many years he took an active. interest in the affairs of the Geraldine Returned Service®’ Association, the Geraldine Homeservicemen’s .Association, and the Geraldine Swimming and Football Clubs. During the Second World War he served a® a sergeant on the New Zealand temporary staff. In 1918 he married Miss Jessie Hales, of Wolverhampton, England. He is survived by his widow, three f>ons and four daughters. They are Messrs Charles, Arthur and Michael Hutt, Mesdame® H. Rouse (Christchurch), W. Johnson (Dunedin), J. Fitzgerald (Christchurch), and Miss Eileen Hutt (Wellingon).
