HAMPSTEAD RED CROSS
SUCCESSFUL FOOD DRIVE One of the happiest and most successful food drives irv connection with the Hampstead Red Cross was held in the Hampstead Hall. An enthusiasm and a wonderful spirit of cordiality existed that thrilled the hearts of the promoters. There were almost 200 tins of food handed in, several bars, of soap and £8 lid in cash. j’lie president welcomed the guests.* ami expressed appreciation 0! the wonderful response. . Mrs M. Curtis (president of the Ashburton Centre) spoke briefly and congratulated the local branch on its efforts.
A most enjoyable programme was given by fhe following:—Duets, Mr and Mrs Wilson; pianoforte solo, Mrs Whyte; bracket of songs, Mr J. Wilson'; elocution, Miss>H. Hortin; bracket of songs, .Mrs Wilson. Communily singing led by Mrs Consi able, and accompanied by Mrs Whyte, allowed guests and pwinders to express in melody their gratitude for the peace and plenty existing in New Zealand.
Comprehensive votes of thanks were passed. A special “thank you” was expressed to donors of cakes and Messrs King Bros, for a very generous donation of vegetables for the “bring and buy” stall, where Mesdames Tinker and Morrow were in charge. Three new members joined.
