BAN ON TRAVEL
EASING AS FROM MAY 1 (Rec. 11.15 a.m.) LONDON, March 16. Sir Stafford Cripps announced in the House of Commons this afternoon that the ban on pleasure trips abroad, imposed on October 1, 1947, would be eased from May 1. . . Tourists would be allowed to visit Austria, Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Switzerland, and possibly a few other countries, but expenses, apart from the fare paid in Britain, could not exceed £35 sterling for adults and £25 for children a year.
