ST. JAMES THEATRE
With its accent set on melody, gaiety and spectacle, “Three Little Girls in Blue,” 20th Century-Fox’s technicolour Musical opens to-morrow at the St. James Theatre, featuring a cast headed by June Haver, George Montgomery, Vivian Blaine, Celeste Holm, Vera-Ellen and Frank Latimore. The film boasts one of the most lavish pro ductions seen since pre-war days, with settings ranging from the splendour of Atlantic City at the turn of the century to a swank Maryland hunt club in all its lush magnificence. Songs are plentiful in the film and the story’s three “little girls” are heard together in “A Farmer’s Life is a Very Merry Life” and “On the Broadwalk (in Atlantic City).” Petite Miss Haver sings “This Is Always” and “If You Can’t Get a Girl in the Summertime”; Miss Blaine is heard in the hit ballad, “Somewhere in the Night”; while Celeste Holm, sensational Broadway star of “Oklahoma!” and “Bloomer Girl,” who makes her screen debut in this picture, gives her intimitable treatment to the sophisticated “Always the Lady.” Talented Vera-Ellen, in addition to singing the lilting “I Love Mike,” and a duet with Charles Smith called, “You Make Me Feel So Young.” is seen in a spectacular dance routine that is one of the film’s highlights.
