TURAKINA-OKOIA DEVIATION (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Turakina-Okoia deviation will lie brought into, operation on Sunday, December 7, from which date all trains will run ovbr the new line, said the Minister of Railways, the lion. R. Semple to-day. The existing line from Turakina to Okoia is 15 miles 51 chains long, but the new route will be 11£ miles long. The saving of travelling time in a southerly direction will be nine and a half minutes for railcars, 21 minutes for passenger trains and 20 minutes for goods trains. In the reverse direction the saving in time will be 10, 20 and 19 minutes respectively. The principal advantage of the deviation is the elimination of steep grades which at present limit severely loads of both north and south-bound trains.
