Mr F. Dewsbury of the London staff of Wright, Stephenson and Company is visiting Ashburton to-day.
A motion of sympathy with the secretary (Mr K. G. Fowke) in his illness was carried at a meeting of the MidCanterbury Lawn Tennis Sub-Associ-ation last evening. Miss Margaret J. Oswald, of Bluff, Southland, has been appointed assistant mistress in English and Social Studies at the Ashburton Technical High School in place of Miss Mavis Money. Miss Oswald will take up duties in Ashburton at the beginning of the new school year. Mr Hugh Allan Henderson, M.A., Dip. Ed., has been appointed principal of the Whangarei Boys’ High School as from March 1, 1948, when the present headmaster, Mr A. R. Ryder, will retire. For the last 16 years, Mr Henderson has been on the staff of the Dannevirke High School, where he now holds the post of first assistant. —P.A. Thanks for the service he had rendered to the Dominion during his many years on the Bench and best wishes for a long and happy retirement were expressed by the foreman of the grand jury (Mr M. J. White) to Mr Justice Blair in the Supreme Court, Gisborne, yesterday. During his charge to the grand jury, his Honour mentioned that it would be the) Ihst occasion on which he would address a grand jury in Gisborne. — P.A.
