OFFICIALS APPOINTED Arrangements are being finalised for an amateur tournament to be conducted in Ashburton by the Ashburton Boxing Association on Monday, August 4. Officials have been appointed as follovys: Supervisor, Mr ,C. J. Brooks; referees, Messrs L. and W. Lister; judges, Messrs D. Wellman, D. Terris, N. Kerr and A. Sparrow; seconds, Messrs .T. McMillan, J. Smith, P. Kennedy and E. L. John; doctor’s steward, Mr 0. Nutbrown; competitors' stewards, Messrs B. J. Rae and S. Willis; call Mr A. I-leseltine; glove stewards, Messrs C. Gunning, J. Addis, C. Good and L Kerr; press steward, Mr L. Gourdie; timekeepers, Messrs G. Bowman, T. Hocking and D. Grant.
A number of Ashburton boxers would be nominated for the Canterbury championships which will take place shortly in Christchurch.
AUSTRALIAN TITLE e i EX-NEW ZEALANDER OUTPOINTED (Rec. 10.0) BRISBANE, This Day. Jack Johnson, 12.7, retained the Australian heavyweight championship, outpointing George Allen, formerly of New Zealand, 12.51, in a 14-round contest.
