DUMPING OF REFUSE

LEGAL ACTION MAY BE NECESSARY A warning that if the practice \ was to continue it would be necessary to take action against offenders, was expressed this morning by Mr G. A. Macfarlane (borough engineer) concerning the dumping of rubbish on the approaches to t-he Ashburton Borough Council’s two dumps. * Speaking of the council’s refuse dumps behind the Ashburton Electric Power Board and at the end of Trevor’s Road, Mr Macfarlane said that instead of dumping their rubbish over the ramp, as clearly directed, some people had dropped refuse on the approaches to the dump proper, with the result that others following were not able to reach the dump with their vehicles, consequently more and more rubbish was dumped upon the approaches. People could help themselves by keeping these dumps'in a tidy state, Mr Macfarlane emphasised. Under existing conditions men and machinery at considerable cost had to be put to. work to clear the approaches.
