WOMEN'S DIVISION

ASHBURTON BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Ashburton branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers was held in the Foresters’ Hall. Mrs A. Sc Hayman presided over a good attendance. One new member was enrolled. Mrs E. M. Begg gave the housekeeper report. Members were reminded of the collecting to he done at the annual ewe fair in March at the request of the Institute for the Blind.

' The president made special reference to the death of Mrs A. Copland, a past-president, and votes of sympathy in bereavement were passed’ w‘th the members of Mrs Copland’s family, Mrs F. Soal, Mrs E. Soal and Airs C. A. Campion. Miss M. Fleming, hospital therapist, gave an interesting talk on nor work and on the need for supplies for coping with the various demands. She thanked two. members of the branch who had donated a sheep’s fleece each for spinning. The roll-call, “My idea of a rollcall,” was intjSfesting, Mrs Moon spoke on community centre, business. Competitions resulted: Plate of six scones, Mrs Watson 1, Mrs Allen. 2, Mrs Wightmnn 3 ; spike, Mrs Watson 1, Mrs Tarbotton 2, Mrs Wightman 3; large bloom, Mrs Tarbotton 1, Mrs Watson 2, Mrs Wightman 3; shrub, Mrs Millar 1, Mrs Harper* 2, Mrs Watson 3; small bloom, Mrs Watson 1, Mrs Millar 2, Mrs Wightman 3.
