FAREWELL WITH REGRET

CATCHMENT BOARD ENGINEER RESIGNS ( 1 'Guardian’ ’ Reporter.) A farewell to Mr G. R. Milward, engineer since the inception of the .board, was extended by members at yesterday’s meeting of the South- Canterbury Catchment Board in Timaru. After 20 of local body work, Mr Milward is entering private practice. ‘Tt is with considerable regret that we have to say farewell to our firstappointed officer, Mr Milward,” said the chairman, Dr. P. R. Woodhouse, at the close of business. “He saw us through the early stages and did far more than most realised to get our affairs on a fluid basis. The board has much, to do with local authorities, and our happy relationship with them is largely due to Mr Milward. The information he supplies to the Soil Conservation Council, on our behalf, was always so well arranged that it was regarded there as the best of returns received from boards. Perhaps more than any other member, I have seen results/ of Mr Milward’s work, and I wish publicly to' acknowledge our thanks to him for his great consideration and attention to all phases of the board’s activities.”

Dr. Woodhouse then moved that the board place on record its thanks to Mr Milward for his services, and extend to him its best wishes for a very successful future in his new sphere of activity. This was seconded by Mr W. H. Hall, and carried with acclamation. In the course of a brief reply, Mr Milward stated that the last 18 months with tlie board had proved most interesting, and he had enjoyed the work very much indeed. He had now completed 20 years of local body work, and felt that he had done his share in this direction. He expressed the hope that the board would enjoy every success in the future.
