Miss Rut.li Sandrey, of Highbank, left for Napier yesterday to take up the position of sub-matron at an orphanage. Miss Sandrey served overseas at a convalescent depot in New Caledonia. Messrs W. H. Amos, E. H. Orr, S. H. Truman, W. K. Waters, E. A. Cockroft, K. D. Mcllraith, G. H. Rollinson and W. H. Dalton of the Ashburton sub-branch of Heritage (Incorporated) attended fthe annual meeting of the Canterbury branch in Christchurch on Tuesday' evening. At the annual communication of the Masonic Grand Lodge of New Zealand in Christchurch yesterday, Mr E. C. Bathurst was elected a member of the Board of General Purposes, while Mr F. G. Mangin (Metliven) Avas appointed to the office of Past Grand Deacon (honoris causa). The High Commissioner for New Zealand in Australia, Mr J. G. Barclay, is paying a short unofficial visit to New Zealand. He has been to Canterbury to see his brother, who is in ill-health, and was in Wellington yes-tei-day. He will return to Australia next Wednesday.—P.A. Flying Officer. David Colin McMurchy, son of Mrs B. McMurchy, Mayfield P. 0., and Flight Lieutenant Lloyd Miller Noble, son of Mrs L. A. Noble, Lynnford, are returning to New Zealand from the United Kingdom aboard the “Rangitiki,” which is expected to arrive at Wellington about Saturday.

That the resignation of Mr L. B. Mace, assistant-secretary, due to illhealth, had' been received was reported to the monthly meeting of the executive of the Ashburton Returned Services’ Association last evening by the president (Mr W. V. Joyce). Mr Joyce *said a letter of thanks for his services and a small momento had been sent to Mr Mace.
