RACING DESCRIBED Racing opened with the Drayton Trot and the large field got away to a good start. All Credit was the early leader with Steel Sword, Great Venture, Lucky Bill, Acclamation and

[Fairy Wings all prominent in the early ! stages. There was little change oyer the first five furlongs, but Monitress then took charge from Lucky Bill, All Credit, Great Venture, Fairy Wings, Acclamation, Great Worth. Lucky Bill took charge at the four furlongs but in a good race home Great Venture finished fast to win by a length from Lucky Bill with Monitress three lengths back third. Fairy Wings was a head away fourth and then came Acclamation and Great Worth. In the first division of the Westward Ho Handicap Symetra led all the way to win nicely. She was attended early by Gallant Sylvia, Betty Ducrow, Bernlap and Peter’s Pal. With six furlongs to go Remlap had run into second place followed by Peter’s Pal, Lady, Spray and Gallant Sylvia.. In a good finish Symetra won by a length from Peter’s Pal with Lady Spray a length away fourth. Remlap was right up for fourth, and then a gap to Gold Strike and Star Artist. The second division saw another all-the-way win, Riinmo taking the lead after the first half furlong and never being headed. For most of the way Gloxania was in second place followed by Mischief, Pocket Edition, Queen Jewel and Milford Lad.' Mischief challenged solidly near the straight entrance and Queen Jewel also finished fast. Rimmo held on to win by h - a length from Queen Jewel ahu Mischief a similar distance away third, then Gloxania, Lyceum and Milford Lad.

£ll paraded for the cup and the Renown’s Pride-Task Force bracket was toade a firm favourite. Renown’s Pride was the early leader from Imperial Grattan, Paddy Potts, Raven, Task Force and Windermere. There was practically no change over the first circuit, except that Paddy Potts had taken second place, with Imperial Grattan third, then Task Force and Raven. The last two gradually improved and along the back the order was Task Force, Raven, Paddy Potts, Imperial Grattan, Communique, Ben Adam and Gamble King. Task Force and Raven drew well away over the next two furlongs, and Raven was actually the leader into the straight, with Gamble King coming fast. Gamble King quickly hit the front and went on to win easily by four lengths from Imperial Grattan, with Task Force six lengths back third. Raven was fourth followed by Tenpennybit, L.ou Hall, Renown’s Pride and Ben Adam.

In the Mount Harding Handicap the early leader was Symetra followed by Rural Lady, Branford, Carisbrook, Shadow Chimes and Wee Logan. The last mentioned came through fast, and ranged alongside Symetra in the straight, these two showing the way to the bend from Carisbrook and Rural Lady. Symetra dropped back and Carisbrook went to the front from Wee Logan, Shadow Chimes, Branford an Silver Light'. Round the home bend Lady Ngaio began to show up but Carisbrook led into the straight from Shadow Chimes, Wee Logan, Rural Lady, Aspinall and Silver Light. Shadow Chimes hit the front but Lady Ngaio came through fast and Silver Light finished well. Lady Ngaio got up in the last few strides to win by a neck from Silver Light with Shadow Chimes two lengths back third. Aspinall was close up fourth. Another “end to end” win resulted in the Avonmore Handicap, Scholarship scoring nicely in a good finish. Scholarship was followed early bv Firewater, Right Royal, Theabelle, Sprayman and County Clare, this being the order practically for the first six furlongs. Right Royal was second to Scholarship along the back with Firewater, Theabelle, Sprayman and Limerick Pride handy. Round into the straight Scholarship drew away to hold a two lengths’ lead from Theabelle while Wade Lane was finishing fast. Scholarship hung on to win by half a length from Wade Lane with Sprayman two lengths back third. Nyallo Scott, which came from a long way back, was fourth, and then came Right Royal, Theabelle, Understudy and Good Review.
