FORGERY CHARGE

| ASHBURTON MAN SENTENCED | (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 4. Robert Quentin Dawber, aged 28, of Ashburton, labourer, was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within three months, when he appeared before Mr Justice Smith in the | Supreme Court to-day on a charge of forgery. Mr L. A. Charles, who appeared for ! Dawber, said that the prisoner had sent a letter, purporting to be signed by two officers of the Army, and originating from Army headquarters, to the owner of premises Avhere a Avoman and man Avere residing. DaAvber had been in love Avith the Avoman, and had sent the letter for the sole purpose of breaking the relations between the two. There Avas no suggestion that, in signing the document, he tried to copy the signatures of any person. There AVas no desire for pecuniary gain.
