METHODIST CIRCUIT

QUARTERLY MEETING * A decision to request conference that Methven and Rakaia be placed on the Ashburton Circuit plan was made by the Ashburton Circuit at its quarterly meeting on Wednesday evening. The Rev. W. T. Blight, supported by the Rev. W. A. Chambers and Messrs T. Wakelin and H. Frampton (circuit stewards), presided over a good attendance. s The membership was reported as 332, while the balance sheet showed a small debit: A donation of £1 to the National Council of Churches was made, and £2 was voted to the Trinity College. It-was agreed that a morning collection be taken up for the reconstruction of British Methodist Churches. The report on the Sunday School was presented by Mr J. Penman. A vote of; thanks was passed to Miss D. Fowke, retiring young people’s - The Sunday School was granted permission to launch a campaign for the nerw Sunday School fund. Mr G. Neilson reported that £162 had been raised for Home and Maori missions. , * Permission was given the Allenton Trustees to apply for a small loan from the Church Building and L-oan fund, to complete their property transactions. ' Mr Blight was invited to be the superintendent minister for a third year. It was decided to ask Conference for a probationer, with a recommendation that Mr Chambers be appointed if possible. Messrs Wakelin and E. Hight were appointed representatives to the November Synod, with Messrs Johnson and Jewell as substitutes. •
