WRONGFUL ARRESTS
PERSONS RIDING ON FOOTBOARDS OF TRAMS (Rec. 12.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The opinion that in some cases the police had gone too far in arresting people alleged to be riding on the footboards of trams was expressed by the Minister of Transport, Mr O’Sullivan. In Ihe Legislative Assembly, a Labour member asked whether it was true that the police had bundled into cars innocent people who had not broken the law. Mr O’Sullivan replied that police patrols were stationed at sports grounds to arrest people who were riding on footboards after incidents which occurred on Anzac Day. He knew, however, of cases where citizens had been picked up who had not ridden on footboards, but were only trying to alight from or enter trams.
