SENTENCES ON JEWS
COMMUTED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT (Rec. 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 29. Official information lias been , received in London to the effect that the General Officer Commanding ill Palestine has commuted the death sentences recently passed on 18 Jews for raiding the railway workshops in Haifa and shooting at British troops to life imprisonment. In Jerusalem, shrieks ended to-day’s session of the trial of Jacob Alkalai charged with participating in the terrorist attack on the Haifa railway workshops. Proceedings were suspended when the accused, after being brought into the court oil a stretcher with his legs in plaster casts, suddenly paled and shrieked: “My feet are paralysed. He was immediately taken to hospital after being handcuffed.
