RAINFALL OF 52 POINTS ‘ Heavy rain*fell in, Ashburton last night and early this morning, 52 points being recorded for the 24 hours ended at 9.30 a.m. The total rainfall since Monday is 1.81 inches. The sun carile out at odd times during to-day, but there were occasional light showers, though the general indications were that the bad weather is breaking. The maximum temperature yesterday was 43. S degrees, against 41.6 on the previous day. . The screen maximum last night was 34 degrees, the same as on Tuesday night. The barometer to-day had risen to 30.07 inches, from 29.77 yesterday. Recordings at Radar Station. Relative humidity at the radar research station at 9.30 this morning was 96 per cent., while the barometer reading was 29.97 inches. For the previous 24 hours the rainfall was 45 points. The maximum temperature yesterday was 43.2 degrees, and the screen minimum last night was 37.9 degrees.

The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: General situation,: There is an anticyclone to the south of New Zealand, with a depression in the North Tasman Sea. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru to 5 p.m. to-morrow is as follows: Moderate to fresh but decreasing south - westerly winds; occasional showers on the coast to-day, chiefly north of Banks Peninsula ; but. weather fair to cloudy generally to-mor-row; cold, with sharp frosts inland. Further outlook: Fair to cloudv.
