DAVIS CUP ZONE FINAL UNITED STATES AND SWEDEN (Rec. 12.30) NEW YORK, Aug. 28. The inter-zone finals of the Davis Cup between the United States and Sweden will be played on September 13, 14 and 15. The Swedish players, Lennart, Bergelin, Torsten and Johansson with Goernbevg as reserve, arrived by air to-day they will compete in national singles at Forest Hills beginning on August 31.

CONTROVERSY OVER MAORIS (Rec. 12.35 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 2S. The possibility of the Maoris playing in the 1948 New Zealand team touring South Africa is still the subject of controversy, says Reuter’s Johannesburg correspondent. The Springbok centre, Dr. Louis Rabrow, said: “The Springbok 1937 team was quite content to play against the Maoris. No members of the team refused Maori hospitality. Maori sol diers at Sidi Rezegh saved many young South African lives. Their modesty and impeccable manners surprised Springbok soldiers. To compare the Maoris with our natives merely rea gross lack of knowledge.” The “Rand Daily Mail” quoted the views of the president of the North Transvaal Rugby Union, Professor H. B. Davel: “We already have too much trouble with our colour question without allowing non-Europeans from other countries, however good Rugby players they may be, to add to our troubles.”
