Miss R. J- Lomas, fiancee of Mr G. G. Leith, of Burnett Street,, Ashburton, is aboard the Dominion Monarch, which is expected 1o arrive at Wellington to-morrow.
Messrs J. Russell Wells and A. J. Mason leave Ashburton to-morrow for Wellington where they will attend the annual conference of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons opening on Thursday.
Sister Tony Stewart, who has been with the Queen Alexander Nursing Service in France and Belgium, is arriving by fhe Largs Bay on a short visit to her mother, Mrs A. Stewart, 109 Aitken Street.
The resignation of Dr. Karl R. Popper was accepted with regret yesterday by the Canterbury College University College Council. Dr. Popper, who was - appointed lecturer in the department of education and philosophy at the college at the end of 193 G, left last year to take up an appointment as ireadev in philosophy at the University of London. Dr. Popper took his degree at the University of Vienna, and in 1934 was lecturing in Prague. In 1935 he addressed the Philosophical Congress at Paris, and in 1936 lectured in England at Bedford College. The college council yesterday thanked Dr. Popper for his services, and congratulated him on the recent publication of his book, “The Open Society and its Enemies.”
