MARCHING CONTESTS
NATIONAL AND ISLAND CHAM PI ON SH,I PS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 2£. Delegates from many centres attended the first annual meeting of the New Zealand Marching and Recreation Association on Saturday. The retiring president, Mr G. S. Austad (Otago) said that about 240 teams were represented at the meeting. It was decided to hold the national championship at Hastings on March 1, 1947. The North Island championships were allotted to the Wairarapa Association to be held at Masterton on a date to be fixed. The South Island championship was allotted to the Marlborough Association, to be held at Blenheim, also 1 on a date to be selected. The following officers were elected: President, Mr George Stanton (Palliatua); executive, Messrs G S. Austad (Otago), R. <T. Irvine (Timaru), F. Owers (Wellington). S. G. Leader (Napier), J. Meldrum (Hastings), K. WKilpatrick (Hawera), F. Robb (Oamaru), R. Hill (Palmerston North), F. Gray (Pahiatua) and Lieut.-Colonel O’Leary (Rotorua); secretary-treasu-rer, Mr J. M. Jeffs; lion, auditor, Mr R. G. Reveirs.
