TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (From the “Guardian,’ Aug. 24, 1921) Vacancy Filled. —The poll held in the Mount Somers Riding yesterday to fill the vacancy on the Ashburton County Council caused by the death of Mr W. Loohhead resulted in the return of Mr W. R. Turton, Avho scored an absolute majority over his two opponents taken together. Judging by the voting not much interest was taken in the election, only 267 votes being recorded out of a total of 752 on the roll.
