TALK BY SISTER LILBURNE TO P.W.M.U. v \ A most interesting talk on her experiences since she went to China in L 938 was given hy Sister Ann Lib burne, of the South China Mission, at the monthly meeting of the Ashburton branch of the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union on Thursday afternoon. Sister Lilbivrne was captured hy the Japanese when she was stationed at Kong Chuen, and spent about three years in a Japanese internment camp. The difficulties experienced on account of the shortage of hospital equipment and medicine were related hy the speaker. There was a large attendance, including members from the Allenton, Ashburton East and Tinwald branches. Mrs G. K. Morrow (president of the Ashburton East branch) and Mrs Buchan (president of the Allenton branch) expressed thanks to the speaker on behalf of those present. Brisk business was done at a. bring-and-buy to raise funds for the mobile dispensary unit for India, as a 40th anniversary- thanks offering. Mrs J. S. Murray presided. Girls’ Auxiliary Tea Miss Lilburne, who is tire Girls’ Auxiliary’s own missionary of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, was also welcomed at an Auxiliary tea, when about 40 members of the Tinwald, Hinds and Ashburton G.A.’s were present, and also four members of the Christchurch central committee. Following the tea. a meeting was held in the hall, presided over by Miss V. Bonnington (president), assisted by the Rev. J. S. Murray and Miss D. McLay (president of the Tinwald G.A.). During the evening Miss Lilburne spoke of her experiences while doing missionary work during war years in China, also while interned in Canton. Miss S. Cowans suitably thanked Miss Lilburne for her most inspiring and illuminating address. . Miss Lilburne showed many interesting souvenirs from China.
