A crowd broke into the police building in the northern industrial town of Miskolcz, dragged the chief of the political investigation department, Arthur Fraenker into the street and killed him by smashing in his head. They were demonstrating against the alleged ill-treatment of 16 workers who .were arrested after the lynching of two Jews accused of blackmarketing. The Russian garrison commander intervened when the crowd attemped to hang Fraenlcer’s corpse in the market square.
