WRESTLING

DRAW IS THE VERDICT CLAYBOURNE AND PENCHEFF (P.A.) CRISTCHURCH, Aug. 1. Jack Claybom’ne and George Pencheff drew in a wrestling match that was marked by fast and clever footwork and a good deal of clowning. In the third round Claybourne Secured a fall with a body press after dropkicks and Pencheff equalised in similar fashion in the seventh round.

M’CREADY BEATS KATAN (P.A ) WELLINGTON, August 1. The Wellington Town Hall was packed to-night for the British Empire heavy-weight wrestling title bout between Earl McCready, holder, and John Katan. It was probably the least spectacular bout of the season, because of the almost complete absence of showmanship. McCready won by two falls to one, the deciding fall coming in the eighth round.
