ANNUAL MEETING AT ASHBURTON
COMMITTEE’S RECOMMENDATIONS Nearly 40 persons attended the annual meeting of the Ashburton Repertory Society last evening. The president (Mr C. E. Moller) said he was pleased to see such a large attendance, especially of males. A woman’s voice asking: ‘ .Aren’t yen pleased to see the females too?” provoked some merriment. Reporting for the interim committee, Mr Moller said that the following; recommendations had been made: That a social reading be held during August; that three one-act plays be produced by September; and that another social reading be held before the end of the year. A donation of £lO toward the Society’s fund had been received, reported Mr Moller. In reply 'to a question, the secretary (Mr S. W. Gower) said that the finances of the society were not very firm. While the society was in recess,, storage and insurance charges had had to be paid, and the .finances were at a low ebb. It was agreed to recommend to the committee that subject, to an investigation of the proposed expenditure, the subscription be 7s 6d for active members and- 10s 6d for subscribers for the coming season. ; The committee was empowered to establish a depot for receiving enrolments. Officers elected were: —Patron, Sir William Nos worthy; president, Mr C. E. Moller; vice-presidents, Messrs J. T. Thomas and R. Kennedy; secretary, Mr Gower; treasurer, Mr L. A. Charles; auditor, Mr S. J. Graham; committee, Mesdames J. .G. Hannah, W. G. Todd, D. Watt, Miss I. Chamberlain, Messrs C. G. de C. Drury, A. J. Nieoll, E. J. George and B. Smallhone.
